Particle physics give me a Hadron
A lot of people seem to be fairly worried about whether the Large Hadron Collider is going to destroy the world. The simple answer to this is: probably not? However, I am no expert in these kinds of things.
My friend Joe Gillard is, however! Let’s ask him? (that link goes to one of his PhD papers which isn’t quite based on this, but does feature Superstring Vacua and Superstrings and Heterotic Strings, according to its keywords… good bedtime reading!)
Also, Ryan Howse has provided me with a simple and yet incredibly useful website link to check the current status of, um, our planet: has the Large Hadron Collider destroyed the Earth dot com!

I’ve got a betting pool going that the thing will fire up and everyone will be so busy talking about Sarah Palin’s last scandal they won’t even notice.
But if I’m wrong, see you on the other side of the singularity. :)
There have been too many black hole jokes this week! Every time we turn something on with the test kit: “Shit, black hole!”
… n’ my friend emailing me today: “Just a thought, sending out 28000 emails through the otk server isn’t going to cause any problems right?”
Response: “There’s a 1.5% chance of it causing a black hole, but fuck it, let’s just do it anyway.”
